"Etimologia cuvantului patsan"

Acest cuvant a aparut la inceputul secolului 20,
probabil in anii de dupa revolutie si-l putem considera
inca o creatie a acelei epoci.
Acest cuvant e provenienta ucraineana si are mai multe sensuri.
Dictionarul istorico-etimologic al limbii ruse moderne ne confirma:
Radacina acestui cuvant, posibil, are un caracter interjectio-onomatopeic. In Ucraina Centrala, "pati"; si "pati-pati" (interj.)
era modul de a chema porcii.
S-ar putea ca acest cuvant insemna - "porcar", "cioban",
sau pur si simplu "putsan". Dar cu timp acest cuvant a devenit polisemantic. Cercetorul-lingvist rus Selisev in 1928 introduce cuvantul "patan" in "Cuvintele din argoul hotilor",
iar alt autor Mirtov in anul 1929 ne aduce cuv. patan - baietan, ca un cuvant al golanilor din Rostov.
Aceeasi informatie ne da si dictionarul explicativ lui Ojegov:
patan (limb. pop.) - baietel.
In realitate sesnsul acestui cuvant e mult mai larg.
"Patan" e un om de varsta cuprinsa intre 5-20 de ani.
Se foloseste si in adresa oamenilor mai mature, chiar pana la 35 de ani, dar mai rar, cand se vorbeste despre un prieten bun.
Dar mai des intalnim cuvintele ca "ciuvac"
(mai ales intre persoanele dintr-o gasca), flacau, mujic (om),
cand e vorba de cineva impunator si imbatranit.
Totusi "patan" in argoul de cartier,
e cineva de-al gastii.
Apropo, puteti sa comparati cu expresii stabile din folclorul romanesc "Stan Patitul" (Ion Creanga), "un om patsit",
unde radacina comuna are cuvantul analizat.
Iar dictionarul indicator
"Argoul contemporan al limbii ruse din lumea interlopa",
ne arata alte sensuri acestui:
1) baietel;
2) un educat al penitenciarului;
3) hot tanar, care comite infractuni sub conducerea, supravizionarea directa, a unui hot cu experienta;
Cel din urma mai este numit si "patsan verde",
iar in cazul in care are success in ceea ce face el este numit "patan de aur".
Apropo, in ziua de azi acest cuvant nu se refera doar la genul masculin, ci si la cel feminin.
Dictionarul-indicator ne da patanca:
1) fetiscana
2) hoata tanara.
In primul sens al cuvantului "patsanca" - una de-a gastii,
fata de cartier, adolescenta pana la 18-19 ani.

In oraselul nostru (al autorului) patanca era fata care era respectata,
care era considerate una de-a gastii,
care puteai avea incredere, una independenta.
Sa ne intoarcem la initialul "patan".
Interesant ca in dictionarul explicativ lui Dali,
cuvantul "patz" inseamna un sobolan gras.
In slang-ul de cartier, sobolan (crasa) e numit cel,
care a furat ceva de la prietenii lui, dar acest cuvant nu este radacina.
Dictionarul mare al argoului limbii ruse ne zi ca "patan" e:
-omul respectat in lumea interlopa -detinutul care nu colaboreaza
cu administratia penitenciarului, nepasator fata de regulile interioare.
-membru unui grup de tineret (al gastii) - cantora
(ka, de pilda, in Kazani, Liuberty, Ufa, Ulianovsc,
Alma-Ata, Naberejnie Celni etc.).
Dupa cum observam acest termen s-a extins pe tot teritoriul CSI
(fostei URSS). Acelasi dictionar ne mai arata inca sens acestui cuvant:
-membru respectat, autoritar al gastii (nu pur si simplu unul din "contora"),
exemplu: Patan - e un titlu, un grad el se elibereaza numai luptatorului trecut prin mai multe incercari, care face parte din "contora".
Adica este ca un grad castigat cu greu,
un grad inalt sic el care l-a primit, va fi respectat de toti cei din "contora".
In asa fel treptat, se poate de spus, din timpurile GULAG-ului si Stalinismului aprofundat,
s-a format un sistem dur, incorect si contradictoriu asa numit intelesuri de patan.
Acest sistem - capcana duce baietii de la inceput la sstrelci si razborci, la batai; dar pe urma pe multi ii aduce pe scaunul condamnatilor, in KPZ, in inchisori, la zona,
dar pe careva la sinucidere.
Dictionarul explicativ al argoului lumii interlope (TSUJ - rus.) ne arata
alte sensuri acestui cuvant folosit la plural patani:
- mai multe chei de la diferite lacate;
- carti de joc Ultimele doua sensuri se folosesc preponderent in lumea interlopa.
In zilele noastre acest cuvant poate fi auzit la orice colt de strada,
in orice curte, oriunde. Acesta a devenit cuvant al maselor folosit in orice imprejurari
in vocabularul tinerilor (sex la patanii, din patanul ista va fi talc, vai ce patan!!, patsan al nostru etc.). Pronuntand acest cuvant, oamenii nu neaparat vorbesc de bine sau cu respect despre persoana. De pilda, un "patan naspa" sau e un "patan prost".
Inseamna ca patan" nu neaparat e o autoritate din "contora"
sau face parte din ea, nu neaparat liderul neoficial al penitenciarului sau tanar hot;
patan e pur si simplu cineva de o varsta nedefinita,
bun sau rau, care merita sau nu respect.

Si nicaieri nu se spune, nu se accentueaza, nu se aminteste,
nici chiar nu se face aluzie ca patanul nu este homosexual.
Si totusi des, tineretul vrand sa castige acest titlu
si, desigur, aflandu-se sub influenta celor mai mari, o iau pe aratura.
Dorinta de a fi considerat de catre prieteni cel mai puternic, curajos, descurcaret si destept, adolescentii ajung sa faca tot felul de fapte bizarre si demente, uneori ajungand chiar si la mici infractiuni.
BAIETI!!! NU ASTA VA FACE PATANII!

Founded in the 12th century, the Principality of Muscovy, was able to emerge from over 200 years of Mongol domination (13th-15th centuries) and to gradually conquer and absorb surrounding principalities. In the early 17th century, a new Romanov Dynasty continued this policy of expansion across Siberia to the Pacific.
Under PETER I (ruled 1682-1725), hegemony was extended to the Baltic Sea and the country was renamed the Russian Empire. During the 19th century, more territorial acquisitions were made in Europe and Asia.
Repeated devastating defeats of the Russian army in World War I led to widespread rioting in the major cities of the Russian Empire and to the overthrow in 1917 of the imperial household. The Communists under Vladimir LENIN seized power soon after and formed the USSR. The brutal rule of Iosif STALIN (1928-53) strengthened communist rule and Russian dominance of the Soviet Union at a cost of tens of millions of lives. The Soviet economy and society stagnated in the following decades until General Secretary Mikhail GORBACHEV (1985-91) introduced glasnosti (openness) and perestroika (restructuring) in an attempt to modernize Communism, but his initiatives inadvertently released forces that by December 1991 splintered the USSR into Russia and 14 other independent republics.
Since then, Russia has struggled in its efforts to build a democratic political system and market economy to replace the strict social, political, and economic controls of the Communist period.
Usually they call a cute (some poor) street-style boy (bloke, fellow, guy, lad, chap) short and stocky, but sweat and tender with his close friends (girls or boys) - patsan (пацан).

It's a regular and common word extended all over the former USSR. Nowadays the territory of the former USSR called Commonwealth /Community/ of Independent States (CIS)
and usually teenagers (boys) here lead double life.
As show off... having sex with girls for social survival and success.
Often boy must be "natural", straight (str8) to get a good job etc,
because generally considered that to have close relation with another boy - it's a sin, but sometimes considered a crime by adults and parents.
This may sound unusual for somebody.
Boys 15 to 19 are very beautiful and sweet.
It's a very special stage in their life,

since they are sexually mature and want to have sex constantly,
but at the same time they still have some of the sweetness and freshness of childhood. If a boy came out as a gay guy,

he is not considered by his friends and adults any more as a patsan!
It's a shame for him

and his parents...

Some persons call a boy who just once showed himself
as a gay boy here - "peedar" (pidar, pederast, pedaraz) from Engl.word "queer". The same meaning have these vulgar (slang & taboo! words): gomic, pedik, petuh, grebeni, pidariuga, vaflist, vafiol, vafloi, vafel etc.

So, as a rule, patsan outside is a boy of hetero sexuality (in his manners and behavour, outdoors activity or sport training, at school, at liceum, at home and in the street) and bisexual inside (from the bottom of his heart, in his soul, tender and kind with his very close intimate friends in a secret way). So, usually patsans lead a double life.
Such kind of double mind & psychology is natural and traditional situation in countries where gay-sex is socially discriminated, sometimes as criminal.
The fact is that in reality practically all patsans wish to suck cock (dick) and want to be fucked at least as one time relation.
For many of them it's a stable hidden desire, their original and natural wish from the very childhood.
"Patsany" in Russian are patsans (pl.form of the word "patsan").
Our expert researched the roots, the origins (the ethymology) of the word "patsan".
This word has appeared in the beginning of 20-th century,
probably in after-revolutionary years
and we can consider it as one more child of that epoch.
The word has the Ucranian origin and has some values.
"The historical and ethymological dictionary of modern Russian" says us: the root of this word, probably has interjectional onomatopoeic character. Middle Ucranian "patsi", "pati-pati" (interj.) and "patsik-patsik" (interj.). Using these exclamation boys call pigs.
Probably this word, in the beginning meant "the swineherd", "the shepherd", "the boy", "chap" or simply "lad".
But in due course the word began to get other values.

Russian scientist-linguist Selischev, in 1928, has exposed this word in "Words from thief's slang" and Mirtov, another language researcher,
in 1929 gives "patsan" that means "the little boy" as the word of the Rostov's homeless children and tramps.
The same speaks us also Ojegov's explantory dictionary:
patsan(pop)- the boy.
Actually general literal value & sense of this word is wider.
It is a person in the age from 5 till 30 years.
It is used also to address to people more senior than this age,
under 30 years, but already less often,
when someone speaks about a good aqaintant, a friend or a comarade.
But already there are more often used other words as:
the dude (especially among people from one group,
team or biz-company), the guy, the muzhik (if the person is of a tall constitution).
And still "patsan" in domestic slang is "the guy of the group or team".
And here the dictionary-explanatory "the Modern Russian slang of the criminal world" us some values of this word:
- the boy;
- the teen prisoner, using the certain privileges;
- the young thief making thefts under supervision of a skilled thief.
The young thief making thefts is called 'green patsan',
and in case if he makes successes, he is called 'the golden patsan'.
By the way, now this word doesn't concern only to males,
but also has got a feminine gender.
The dictionary is giving the word "patsanka":
1. the little girl;
2. young girl-thief;
In the first value this is the girl from the team,
the teenager till 17-19 years.
In ours (co-author's) small town "patsanka" was the girl who was respected, considerated as the group's person, to whom could be trusted, who's independent.
But let's return to primary "patsan".
It's interesting that in Dali's explantory dictionary,
the word 'pats' means big, fattened rat.
In neighbourhood's slang, in CIS the word "rat" (krysa) calls of the person who had stolen something from his friends.
But it's not the root of the word "patsan"...
The big dictionary of Russian slang speaks, that "patsan" means:
- the person who is respected in the underworld;
- the prisoner who is not cooperating with administration of penetenciary institution, not submitting to the internal schedule, rules & regulations.
Also it is a member of a youth criminal grouping 'contora' (Kazani, Naberezhnie Chelni, Liudertsy, Ulianovsk, Alma-Ata etc).
Apparently this term has extended all over the former USSR. Further, the same dictionary specifies one more value of this word.
That is a respected, authoritative member of a youth grouping (not an ordinary one in 'contora'). So, in such criminal groups patsan is a rank, it is the award which usually stands out only to the tested fighter entering into 'contora'.
It is something life hard earned grade,
a high level and the person who has earned it will be respected by everyone from the group.
Thus, gradually, it is possible to tell, since times of GULAG and stalinism,
the rigid, ugly, severe, incorrect and inconsistent system of so-called "concepts of patsans" (patsan's approach to life, patsan's motivation) was generated.
In the beginning, this system-trap conducts and leads children to personal & moral problems, crimes and fights. Later in prisons, and some of them to suicide.
'Explanatory dictionary of criminal slang' gives some more values of this word used already in plural, "patsany" are:
set of keys from various locks;
playing cards;
Last two values are used mainly in the underworld.
Today this word can be heard practically in each court, yard, everywhere. It has become the word of masses being used everywhere in lexicon of youth.

And saying this word, people often define, characterise respectfully or worthy the person. Or just the reverse...

For instance: 'he's a bad, rotten patsan' or 'he's a stupidpatsan'. So, patsan doesn't neccessarly means an authority in 'contora' or a person entering in it;
patsan is not necessarly informal leader of penitenciary institution or young thief; patsan is just a simply man of uncertain age, good or bad, worthy or not (a person of male gender).

Nevertheless teenagers wish to earn this title and get under the influence of criminal seniors; in this case they are going on a curve path.
The desire to get good opinion of friends, as the strongest, courageous, brave and clever boy, can push teenagers to mad and reckless acts, and sometimes to serious crimes, breaking the law. Boys!!! Acting this way you don't become patsans!
